Indra is a powerful deity in Hindu mythology, regarded as the king of the gods (Devas) and the ruler of Svarga (the heavenly realm). He is known as the god of rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and war.
Symbolism:
Weapon: Indra wields the Vajra, a thunderbolt weapon symbolizing strength and authority.
Mount: His mount is Airavata, a giant white elephant with multiple heads, symbolizing purity and power.
Role: In ancient Vedic texts, Indra was one of the most prominent gods, protecting the heavens and defeating demons (Asuras) that threaten cosmic order.
In Balinese Hindu Culture:
Indra is still respected as one of the important deities associated with natural forces, particularly rain and weather, which are crucial for agriculture and ritual ceremonies in Bali.
